Leek
Both Derby and Stoke-on-Trent have large shopping centres but Leek itself also has a good selection of shops, which range from high street names to department stores. There are many cafés and local antique shops and the history of Leek is a mixture of farming and textiles. There was a cattle market that was held in the centre of the town for hundreds of years and there is still a strong market that is held in the heart of Leek. Property for rent is available from the surrounding villages right into town, with the countryside that surrounds Leek is known as the Staffordshire Moorlands.
The Peak District is only a short drive from Leek and the market town is often called the Gateway to the Peak District. There is no train station in Leek after its closure a few years ago but there are good road systems and bus services in place. Many of the towns old textiles making mills are being renovated into houses and there is a wide range of property to rent in Leek. As well as Alton Towers, the Britannia Building Society is a major employer in Leek and rental properties are a great way to enjoy living in Leek.
