Hitchin
Hitchin has approximately 30,000 residents many of whom purchase property in the town centre close to the main amenities and facilities. Hitchin is reportedly the site of the UK's most severe hailstorm when it experienced hail stones as large as four inches in diameter along with a neighbouring village. Hitchin was a satellite dormitory place for London which currently homes a strong Sikh community. Buying property in Hitchin is widely available and there are many different prices and styles in both the town centre and the outskirts.
Henry VIII has a strong connection to Hitchin with legend claiming that he used to pole vault over the River Hiz and one day the pole snapped and the former king fell into the river much to the amusement of his servants. The local public house, the Bucks Head, has a sign that commemorates the story. Hitchin Town Football Club was formed in the 1800s and lays claim to being one of only three teams to play in the first ever FA Cup. Stevenage and Peterborough are both close by and are easy to reach via the A1, M1 or the railway.
